Many of the staff have been with DPReview ofr a long time and came from the UK office. They have a sense of humor that Ameircans find 'different.' I also have a hard time telling when they are just being flip or trying to pull our collective leg.

Don't think that's it. They seem rude and off-hand to many Brits too. I think it's a lot to do with the pattern set by Phil Askey. There was a post here by Simon Joinson, saying this was the only job he'd ever had.

Minor point. It's the only time I've been employed by anyone but myself. By the time I joined in 2004 I had already been in this business since the late 1980s. I launched What Digital Camera magazine almost 2 years before Dpreview opened its doors.

Surely that should be 'Which Digital Camera'? You know, I'm not a professional journalist, but sometime one needs to attend to the grammar. I can't remember the exact quote, but the essence is that Phil was your first employer, apart from yourself. So, you were effectively trained by Phil...

So, he was effectively trained by Phil, and now he's the boss, the others take their lead from him.

Mostly they are pretty young, on first or second jobs

I love your assumptions. I wish I was pretty young - I'm a lot older than Phil, for example. The average age of the writing team is heading towards the 40's - unusual in this business.

They are pretty well preserved, from their photos, then. Do they all have pictures in the attic? If it's  any comfort to you, I am probably even older than you.

- I think in the end, they just haven't learned how to behave.

Bob, That is so rich. Thanks for the laugh!

Of course I know how to behave. Sometimes though, I choose not to. But that is hardly the point, standards of behaviour depend on role. On these forums I am an average punter, here for the laughs and to learn, you are in a position of authority. That is a very different role, and you seem to get it confused. In my professional life I certainly would not behave as you and your editorial team seem to wish to, particularly with respect to your attitude to moderation. Nor, of course would I behave as I do on these forums. However, you get the behaviour here that you deserve. When you stop treating people with respect, they stop treating you with respect (except for the toadies, and no-one really wants their respect). The reason we get so much juvenile schoolyard behaviour here is because the attitude of the staff comes across as schoolyard and juvenile. Not that I'm complaining, as I said I'm here for the laughs, though I must admit it's not nearly as much fun now as when you kept on giving me the opportunity to return under silly names and mess around in total disconnect from my real life identity.

So, as an example, by responding to me with 'Bob, That is so rich. Thanks for the laugh!' you've immediately undercut your own air of authority here and invited a personal discussion on our several proclivities. Exactly what I mean by not knowing how to behave. We have a different status on these forums, which means in this context there are different standards of behaviour to be expected.
