Lens recommendataion: Fast AF for indoor sports?

As most here, I suppose, I've migrated through quite a bit to arrive at my current kit. The last major capability I'm interested in having is being able to take action shots indoors (kid's basketball and wrestling).

<Background info - can probably be skipped>  I mostly shoot with an NEX - except sports photography. Earlier this year, I got an LA-EA2 adapter and have been happy with results (70-300 SAL zoom). I have one other A-mount lens so it seemed worth the expense. I had an a33 as a backup (I travel internationally quite a bit for work - and always have a backup body, tablet, phone, etc on hand!). I work on research ships and things can get sprayed or, like my tablet, dropped overboard - twice! I got overwhelmed with the black Friday sale and just purchased an a65 body as my backup. a33 on eBay. </>.

I now want to reasonably bright fast autofocus lens for taking action shots with my a65 indoors. I have looked through several threads here and here. What's unclear to me is whether there's a difference in AF motor speed between the body-driven and internal lens motors? From this thread , it appears there might be? Right now, I'm pricing 85mm fixed focus lenses - a Minolta 85f1.4 and Sony 85f2.8. The former is likely outside my price range. Could anyone speculate on the AF speed? I usually stop down to ~f8 in order to increase DOF, but with a prime (with rapid AF motor), I thought perhaps I could shoot wider and get a decent number of photos in focus.

Any recommendations regarding AF speed? I think 85-100mm (FF) focal length prime lenses are what I'm after?

Thanks and sorry if this is an obvious question (my searching hasn't answered this question).
