There are at least 6 different standard kit lenses (not including superzooms). So far as I can make out:
Panasonic 14-45mm OIS (best reviewed and still most expensive on the used market)
Absolutely regret selling this one. Assumed I would be able to get another for cheap.
Panasonic 14-42mm OIS (generally considered very average)
Feh
Panasonic 14-42mm II OIS (the pancake one)
It is tidy.
Olympus 14-42mm (the first one, pretty decent and small)
Horrible. Wobbled. No hood and wonky filter size. Was destroyed by a friends kid and I was secretly glad.
Olympus 14-42mm II (much the same as the first one I think)
Never used.
Olympus 14-42mm II R (not sure what the R means here)
Actually pretty nice. Good feel. Doesn't wobble. The lens hood cover (that ring thing) thing that falls off my 45mm f1.8 constantly actually stays on the kit lens.
I think the 14-45 OIS is the best of the bunch. But I wouldn't put it on a camera that had anti jiggle built into the body. Just too big. So on an Oly I'd use the 14-42 II R.

What is your favourite (regardless of body used) and why?

This never would have happened if Tedolf was still alive.
