I have seen both of these lenses online and it appears that the "IF - ED VR" is the older version of the "ED VR II" however when I look at the specs it seems they are the exact same lens with the exact same features bar a small difference in the motor. Does anyone know if there is a real difference between the two? If so which would you recommend and why?
The "Old" version was afflicted with zoom creep which infuriated some users. To alleviate, version II has a zoom lock switch to lock the lens at 18mm when not in use. Other than that, the only difference is the letters "VR" on the barrel. They're gold now but were red on the older version.
Optically, they're exactly the same.
