What I heard is not only the kind of focus detection (PDAF or CDAF) and the technology behind it important but, especially for alpha-lenses the motor which drives the auto-focus! Seems like the LA-EA2 has a faster-better motor in it which drives the focus of the camera faster, so there is no way, the LA-EA1 can be that fast.

You are right about the motor...

But we are talking about the lens motor

Typically sam and ssm have their own motor and the speed are not related to the la-le motor.

What is correct is that :

Actaual sam and ssm motor works better with PDAF

Actual Nex lens motors (stepping motor) are adapted to CDAF.

this is why canon has introduced the two recent lenses (STM) including stepping motor and are supposed to be compatible with both PDAF and live view CDAF
