The D7000 has the same sensor as the DxO champion touted about in the initial post

C'mon Karl.  Why be so rude?

I didn't start this thread, so it could turn into a flame war.  Let's check our emotions at the door, pull our heads out of the sand and have a serious discussion...

I'll resist the temptation to "strike back", as so many do on these forums, and simply say that I do not rely totally on DXO, Imatest or any other data to form my observations.  However, there is a direct correlation between sensor data and sensor performance.  The two cannot be seperated.  Either a sensor records a high DR or it doesn't.  Either a sensor has an ability to record lots of color information or it doesn't.  Either a sensor has an ability to keep an image together at higher ISO's, with great SNR or it doesn't.  The results can be witnessed on screen and in print.

Every year, Canon touts to us that their new sensor design has better DR, better SNR, better this, better that.  However, we never see that great leap in performance that we've been witnessing from Sony, over that past few years.  In stead, waiting on Canon's legitimate sensor improvements has become more like watching a faultline move, or watching paint dry, or watching dust collect on a surface.  You get my point...

Look, the king has no clothes.  Canon is lagging behind, in sensor performance, whether you measure it objectionaly or subjectionaly.  I'm concerned they will not break through this wall in developement.  If that is not a concern for folks, than great for them.  There is a lot to admire about Canon's DSLR products, which is why, I'm expressing my frustration.  I love everything about my Canon DSLR's and lenses, except the sensor performance...

I realize I'm not going to be popular, by taking this stand.  That's cool, but doesn't everyone want a camera that sucks less???

Regards,

Russ
