There is nobody more qualified than Thom to sort this out

I do not agree.

How can Thom sort anything out if he is not a Nikon employee?

Nobody has "sorted out" the alleged D800 AF issue, Nikon has made no announcement 8 months after launch. Of the 91 images I have looked with links at dpreview none tested to a good enough standard to confirm a fault.

If there is a D600 dust issue I would put more faith in dpreview than in Thom. dpreview found more dust than usual after 4 weeks testing, say they are in contact with Nikon, and have yet to update the dpreview D600 test to say if it needs a second clean after 6 or 8 weeks use.

Many problems turn out to be a lack of intimate knowledge of complex modern camera equipment.
