The metro was not available when I got my RS-4. It works very well with my G3. I believe it is a little wider than the Metro and also has pocket on the shoulder pad where I carry a spare battery.
I also purchased the FR-T1 Tripod Fastener so I do not have to remove my Velbon tripod quick release plate when using the strap.
Do I need to add some form of screen protector if carrying the camera in this way?

The camera rides very well on your hip and I don't think this would be a problem, of course my G3 LCD folds in so the screen is protected.
