One thing usually overlooked in these threads and in Nielsen's UI review is improved hardware support (USB 3, UEFI, color management, a bunch of other stuff), and internal software security/efficiency improvements in Win 8. The OS will keep evolving, the UI is only part of the equation.

Use Start8, Classic Shell, etc, and you will have (as has been said above) an improved Win 7. It's not that hard.  And you still have the option to use your productivity device as an entertainment/content delivery system
