BobT - I've owned the SX40 since it came out and am very satisfied with it.   Like so many others I eagerly awaited the arrival of the SX50.  I personally do not give a lot of weight to the increased zoom of the SX50 and am not willing to sacrifice lens speed for the additional range.  I was still considering the upgrade particularly because of the increased focus speed of the SX50.  However, I've now looked at photos on various forums and the samples in professional reviews and I'm underwhelmed with the quality of the SX50.  To my eye (compared to the SX40) many of the photos seem to be incorrectly exposed and lack vibrancy.  I realize this a very subjective opinion, but that's my conclusion after looking at many posted samples.  For that reason I'm sticking with my trusty SX40 and taking a pass on the SX50.

The one feature I was really hoping for on the SX50 was a usable manual zoom didn't materialize.  I hope a future Canon model will incorporate that feature.
