Not at all. The symbol is used as an alert against an inappropriate post. So the person using this avatar is identifying themself as the forum cop calling out troll posts. Based on the original meaning of the avatar that is how I take its use here.

Firstly I have previously asked that person why they use such an avatar and received no answer. Secondly your post contains numerous assertions on your part. It would help if you based your assertions on evidence rather than the output of a febrile imagination.
Would you mind telling me why you are being so rude? I have posted nothing to insult you. Think before I post? Febrile imagination? Hardly warranted.

Please, I am not being rude. Do look up the meaning of the words. Febrile imagination is a reasonable term to use. Overactive imagination would be equally appropriate. You are making assumptions. How do you know the poster is question is using the avatar in the manner you suggest? And who appointed him/her as the 'forum cop'? And why do we need a 'forum cop' when there are moderators. If anyone posts something untoward, we can alert the moderators.
I will also point out that I am not the first to question his/her use of that avatar. Someone in this thread has done so, and I know several people in another thread have done so. So I guess it is common for people to comment on the use of the avatar and question how appropriate it is. I do not think it appropriate in a public forum of this kind unless it is something sanctioned by dpreview. I find it creepy, and I think I am not alone.

Trust me Leif, I am not sticking up for the guy. And I totally agree with most of what you say. But all I did was post a response that stated what the real meaning of the avatar is. No one appointed him the forum cop, I agree. However, I prefer to think that he using the avatar as an "in your face" logo that he is policing these forums and calling out trolls. You're right, that is an opinion of mine. But I personally think it is a more plausible alternative than people insinuating that he is a pedophile for using that avatar... when that's not what the avatar means. At least according to what I have read on the topic.
I am not insinuating something, but I am saying quite directly that using that image in a photo forum is unsettling. That is just my view. As I have said, numerous people have commented, so I am not alone. I do know that the Pedobear is supposed to be a positive thing, but I find it disconcerting that by using that image the other person is introducing paedophilia into the thread. I'd rather not be reminded of that form of behaviour in a photo forum. It is out of context.
So yes. I did think about this before I posted. And in the context of the heated discussion of this forum thread you can't parse "febrile imagination" into the innocent meaning of the individual words. Unless English is not your native language I think you know full well what the use of that phrase implies in the context in which it was used.
Err, actually I can use 'febrile imagination' to mean 'overactive imagination' because that is what I meant, and that is what it means. I do not know what you are saying. And English, as used by the English rather than Americans, is my native language. Well, after grunting, as colleagues will testify.
