I agree there's too much emphasis placed on high DR. Most of the images I see look terrible. For instance, a landscape where the shadows are lightened too much. They look garish - a perfect match for the velvet Elvis in the garage. They also lack mood. On the other hand high DR does offer lots of flexibility for manipulation. I think there is no need to get too uptight about Canon's sensor technology. I doubt they are just resting on their laurels. Also, Japan has been through the wringer the past few years and it is good to see Canon being a good corporate citizen, reinvesting in Japan at greater cost when the competition is outsourcing everything. Some have been critical of Canon "complacency" since the early days of digital. I have no doubt we will see more amazing things in the future from Canon.
