D600 and NIKKOR 70-300 F/4.5-5.5 G VR IF-ED

If cost is a consideration, I highly recommend the older nikon 35-70 f2.8.  You can get it from EBay for less than $500.  I got one for about $300.  It is an outstanding mid range zoom  for cheap.  The 35mm may be a little light for wide angle but it suits most of my needs.  I have a wide angle f2.8 that I rarely use, the 35mm usually is fine.
