I don't tolerate mp3, just saying, and CD quality isn't that great either.  But it's lost to most ears, so it's a good analogy.  To me, I can hear the difference between 16/44.1 and 24/96, but most people cannot and are willing to live with mp3 compression artifacts, the same holds true for photographs.
