Getting to the next skill level

Hello,
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
Having a few days off, in addition to watching football and consuming a large amount of food and alcohol, I have time to wonder about my hobby.
Having my first DSLR for a little over a year now and having read Friedman's book, I believe I've gone past the "why-is my-P&S-photos-looking-better-than-my-DSLR-ones" and have a good understanding of aperture/shutter-speed/ISO/DOF plus the usual composition basics (rule-of-thirds etc...)
I know I have a lot more to learn as I've seen so many (much) better photos than mine, so the questions for you all are how do I continue to learn and what/where do I go to continue improving my photographic skills. I think I am mainly interested in landscape and portrait photography (as wildlife photography is so frustrating and time-consuming even though I love taking photos of birds especially).
Thanks for any advice you may have for me.
