Very interesting examples. Have you compared Helicon to ZereneStacker? I'm finding some images are problematic with ZereneStacker, and will probably try the demo of Helicon, but wondered if you had any experience comparing the two.
I haven't tried Zerene - a friend who does this a lot says that Helicon is the best game in town but I am always willing to try something new!
Very nice. Seems to have worked well. Lots of micro-contrast. The concrete is crunchy. I would be interested to know what post processing you did—especially the contrast, sharpening, clarity, vibrance, and saturation settings.
I did literally nothing to the file other than my usual sharpening in LR, which is 60/0.7/70/20 and Camera Standard profile.
The top corners look reasonable, but the bottom corners look badly distorted and out-of-focus. Have you worked out whether the corner problems are due to field curvature? That seems to be the case with the Nikon AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8D.
Yup, I originally marked two focus points in LV zoom; frame bottom centre and frame top centre, and then added two points between. The curvature is such, at this very close distance, that as I said I'd do another two at F16 or with LV focus to get the corners sharp. Distortion would be significantly helped by using lens corrections, which only work in LR on the original RAW files, and which I didn't do.
The bottom corners look much better here, but the top corners suffer. Did you specifically focus one shot on the foreground corners?
The first of the shots was LV focussed on the leading edge of the log, then I merely made small incremental tweaks to focus out to nearly infinity, with slightly larger intervals between each shot. Part of the problem, especially top right, is that someone walked into frame, and part of it is that the light fluctuated a lot (to the extent that Helicon warned me!) and that seems to make a difference...
Practice will make perfect I'm sure. The log shot had a LOT of moving leaves and Helicon has dealt with very nearly all of them...
Indeed!
