I don't want to bother people if they are happy. Photography should be fun in my opinion but I am happy to share what works for me.

When I got my first SLR (film) in 1993 one of the first things I noticed was the shallow DOF and I also shot wide open all the time for quite a while.

Most of my portrait commissions I shoot now will be with the Olympus 45 @f/4 so I'm still shallow but not that much.

Obviously it is the quality of the photo that counts, but I wouldn't call shooting mFT at F4 shallow unless it is a macro shot .Like every other photo technique shallow DOF was and is useful for subject isolation especially if you have a distracting background { not all photos are set up}as well as its aesthetic value.
