The a77 gives you must faster shooting (more frames per second) and effectively makes lenses be more telephoto, and makes macro photography more convenient. The a99 gives you several stops better low-light performance for when you shoot in dim rooms without a flash. If you were trying to shoot indoor sports or night rock concerts or something you'd want to get the a99 and a bright telephoto lens. If you do landscapes, need to hike or travel with the camera, or want a faster burst mode, the a77 could be a better fit for you.
I didn't even mention money in the pros and cons above, if you start doing professional work you can earn more money for all of the inevitable equipment upgrades that you are sure to need. If you're really in doubt about it, then the safer choice is the less expensive body, even if it becomes a back-up body for you in a future year.
