They ask for figures, we provide them with figures directly from multiple Nikon representatives and service center employees, and all of a sudden they are invalid because it's obviously a conspiracy theory full of lies LOL. Had that information supported the claim of a widespread issue though, you can bet it would have been deemed as truthful. It's a losing battle.

I feel like it's important to provide some balance to all the hysteria for the sake of new readers or people coming here for information. At least make people think a bit and make their own decision.

AllOtherNamesTaken: it would be great if, as you claim, you can provide figures directly from Nikon's service center employees. Nikon's silence is the main engine behind the dust/oil hysteria (aka DOH :-). Anything which is straight from the source is very welcome. But, unfortunately, from carefully reading all your posts on oil/dust I doubt that you have any extra info. Your conclusions are based on speculation and on your own experience with your own ("That is only one") camera. To be fair you also mentioned 6 of your friends with perfect D600s. I think it is silly to deny that quite a few people are experiencing this problem.

Much more constructive application of your analytical and statistical talents would be an attempt to correlate dust/oil occurrences with the serial numbers to find out what batches are good and which are not and whether Nikon have already solved the problem in production. In the D800 left-AF case it was quite a meaningful activity. To put my skin in the game I am offering my help.

It is strange that MY new D600 has dust accumulation in the exact same area after an initial wet cleaning by the dealer and only 50+ new exposures. Too many others had had the same experience for this to be just a few malcontents...

Yes, I think it is a real problem. BTW, what are the first 4 digits of your D600's serial number? Did you ask the dealer was it dust or oil?
