SATA to ESATA (to HDD)

HI ALL,
After over an hour searching google and here I've not found a convincing answer. Connecting from mother board to HDD enclosure using eSATA.
My mother board has only sata connectors. I have one not used.
I bought a HDD enclosure, Sabrent EC-UEIS7. It has an esata connector interface (and power supply). And I also got a sata to esata cable. The cable description says - sata internal -. esata external. (6 feet long) "Designed to connect from SATA 1/11 host controller to any eSATA device". (Made by Link-Depot). Thus, one end of cable has a sata connector that will plug into the mother board sata connector. The other end of the cable has a esata connector. This esata connector will plug into the Sabrent enclosure.
Question is should this work? That is, plug cable into mobo sata and other end into the enclosure esata (that has HDD drive in it)? So far, no joy.
Thanks all - Tom
