Understand that statistically it might represent a small batch. However, since Nikon has yet to address the issue with statistics that suggest otherwise the public will tend to overemphasize the nature of the defect. I would expect this to be especially true with Japanese manufactured products which for the last 50+ years have relied on statistical sampling to help insure a high level of quality control.
The fact that Nikon has had two products (800 lf issue & 600 dust) with a notable issue, albeit possibly very small sample, in the recent past suggests that either Nikon's concern about producing a quality product has diminished, or they are producing products that exceed their engineering capabilities.
I am surprised that Nikon has not responded, so that if it is a small problem, potential customers will know Nikon is concerned about the quality of its products and that their chance of getting a defect is very small. If it is a big problem then customers can make a more informed decision as to the timing of their purchase. Or, finally it just may be that they can't figure it out, which would suggest that they are exceeding their expertise.
The above being said I like my 600. It does have dust and I have had to clean it off a couple of times. No noticable impact on my pics as I rarely shot above f8. Also, a bit surprising since I thought the self cleaning sensor would do more of it.... though I wonder if it is shaking all of the dust into the top left corner... My "dust" spots are not as opaque as the video's were, which leads me to believe most was some sort of oil or extremely fine dust.

I take lots of pictures. Sometimes I even make a photograph. http://leeper.smugmug.com/
