Take a look at the Sony RX100. My big problem with p&s cameras is that they can't deliver shallow depth of field like DSLRs can. Of course there are workarounds like switching to Macro mode but that's not always practical.
The Sony RX100 packs a rather large sensor in a small body and produces awesome image quality. The downside is that its not a "super zoom." You could also look at some 4/3 cameras but those would still require interchangeable lenses.

I'm 75 and tired of hauling around my backpack with DSLR, lenses, etc. and I'm thinking of dumping this gear and just getting one of the small super zoom P&S cameras to carry around. I don't make large prints, sell prints, etc. anymore so my photography is just for my personal amusement now. I guess my question is what are the down sides to such a move that you might think off that I might regret later?
Happy Thanksgiving to all here at DPReview. And thanks so much for all your help!
