Re: canon does better in video

Zappa1976,

I am a Nikon fan, just as you are a Canon fan. Fact

I am in a Canon forum that is obsessed with Nikon cameras, and every other post is about Nikon. Fact

If in the Canon forum folks post comments about Nikon that are not accurate when there is evidence to the contrary, I am simply calling them on it. Fact

That folks on this Nikon obsessed forum choose to ignore those reviews, links, blogs, tests. That is not my fault.

All I am doing is presenting the evidence as point of reference and perspective.

I included the side by side video, it does not lie; the Canon images are heavily noise reduced. Fact

The Nikon video is not. Fact

The Canon appears a lot cleaner due to heavy noise reduction. Fact

The Nikon after post is far better in regards to detail and dynamic range even after post. Fact

I even quoted the reviewer Joe Marine :

"One thing is clear, the signal recorded from the HDMI of the D800 at lower ISOs is one of the cleanest I’ve ever seen on a DSLR. There’s no doubt that these are all capable cameras with various positives and negatives. The D800 won’t be able to shoot in no-light situations without a little noise, but the Mark II and the Mark III have lower resolved detail and color channels that are not nearly as clean."

"The clean HDMI is a big deal, and it’s nice finally being able to record to a professional codec. Like I said before, at lower ISOs, with the D800 lit properly, it has one of the cleanest images of any DSLR I’ve ever seen – and if you’re recording to something like ProRes, it’s hands down the cleanest."

"It’s because the D800 has more dynamic range or latitude. This is not limited to the video mode, the Nikon also has more dynamic range in stills mode. Basically the D800 is able to see detail in more exposure levels above and below the correct exposure."
Don't get upset with me if I come over to the Canon forum and attempt to correct misconceptions or outright misleading posts.
Remember, I didn't start all of the Nikon threads on the Canon forum
