One word really - 'stunning'!
It just goes to show that at the end of the day it is ALWAYS the skill of the photographer that creates stunning images that tell a story or convey emotion. Gear is just a tool and no more than that.
Despite, the saddness of the story, the images should be treasured - as I'm sure they will - printed and framed. I bet there would be many a animal publication that would love to feature these images too.
