Overall, however, it still becomes very difficult to take criticisms of Windows 8 seriously when they seem to be informed by opinions that were made before the person ever actually used it. Take this board for example. Folks like you and Jim and Berry and CAcreeks seem to have simply HATED Windows 8 since you first saw it. You have been predicting doom and gloom for months now, and seem more interested in having a little victory dance at the below expected sales numbers.
There is a level of emotional involvement here that I simply don't understand.

Well, I dare say some people are criticising W8 without having used it, but I have used it extensively for several months.  On a point of fact, I haven't been predicting doom and gloom or dancing victory dances; I think Microsoft might well succeed with W8 even if I don't like it.

Your point about Jakob Neilsen's remarks on single non-overlapping windows - I just don't agree with your analysis.  The whole thrust of his review is about the Metro UI.  It would be complete nonsense otherwise.  Then again that's what you're saying, I suppose...

As for "the level of emotional involvement here that I simply don't understand" - that's my point too, although I see the "emotional involvement" on the part of (as I see it) irrational enthusiasm for a new and (IMHO) poorly-designed UI.

I can see that we're not going to agree about this
