This really isn't a Canon versus Nikon bit, but more why does the Nikon D800 which is known for better high ISO performance so crappy in the linked video above. Its a "Why" question, not a "we're better than you" post. Perhaps I wasn't so clear in my initial post.

The D800 has a modest edge in High ISO stills performance (My High ISO Comparison Thread), but the 5DM3 has 1 1/2 to 2 stop advantage in High ISO video performance, owing to its better video binning algorithm (5DM3 combines lines when downsampling to video, whereas the D800 skips/tosses lines).l

Well this would seem like it answers all questions, but the old 5DII is a line-skipper too, yet even it wipes the floor with the D800 in terms of video noise levels.

The 5DII also had analog line summation for video. The D800 doesn't, it's hard to do with the Exmor architecture. No doubt about it, either the 5DII or 5DIII is a better camera for low light video. The D800 beats them both for still IQ at all light levels, however.
