Until now, I've considered my technique to be pretty good - this lens (and the XE-1) have shown be that I need to improve! The sharpness is so good that if you accidentally set the aperture too wide in a landscape shot you can actually see that the very distance is out of focus. I'm going to have to start stopping down more!

I'm not sure how this lens would have shown you your described flaws where your previous lens didn't. If you were focussing at infinity then your image should not be out of focus, at least in the non edge areas. Thinking it's due to f stop, depth of view issue is limited consideration. Also pay attention to camera movement as culprit. If you were actually focused closer in and had not noticed that at wide aperture the limited depth of field then yes it is important to utilize closing down the aperture. This you should be able to see with most lenses.
