Wild price difference: U.S vs Canadian
Nov 20, 2012

For awhile now, I've been looking for a serious alternative to the Sony 70-200f2.8 (overpriced IMHO): the Sigma has inconsistent IQ  and  the Tamron has slow autofocus for what I do, weddings.  Tamron's new 70-200f2.8 is great news and the initial reviews (as good as the CANIKON offerings at half the price) are very good. However, I don't understand the extreme differences in prices between Canadian and U.S sources. B&H has it for $1499 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892852-REG/Tamron_20_200mm_F_2_8_Di_VC.html while Adencamera in toronto has it for $1989 http://www.adencamera.com/product-overviewer.asp?ProdID=4222&Category=7 Here's another price difference, although not as extreme, of the Tamron 24-70f2.8. At Adencamera, it is $1180 http://www.adencamera.com/product-overviewer.asp?ProdID=3994&Category=7 while at B&H, it is $1299 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845339-REG/Tamron_SP_24_70mm_f_2_8_DI.html The Canadian dollar is more or less on parity with the U.S. currently, it's worth a few cents more. As for the Tamron 70-200f2.8, in as much as I prefer to patronize my local retailer (they're there when I need them ) it's really a no-brainer considering the extreme price difference: mail order!
