I've joined the 5D club! - need advice on 7D

I have the 5D III and 7D also. For me, it is a wonderful combination. Though I use the 7D mainly for birding, I think it is an excellent camera on it's own merits. Paired with the 5D III, I'm covered for just about anything I usually shoot.

I will say that the 5DIII can pretty much cover it alone but that I do enjoy the extra reach of the 7D. If I ever replace the 7D it will be with another cropped sensor and probably with the 7D's successor. Along the same thinking, I can't see not having a FF companion to go with it.
