I disagree with the comment on microlenses. The function is one of integration, not bandpassing. The real low pass filter comes from the spacing of the sensels. As someone else pointed out already, if the photosensor area matched the sensel size the microlens would have no purpose.  If the photosensor size is smaller, the sensor will record a higher frequency, but it will be a false one due to the point sampling effect of having a small photosensor. So the microlenses do have a low pass effect, but it acts on the false signal, not the frequencies in the image.
