I can offer my opinion as an architectural photographer. I use a manfrotto 405 pro geared head and it does a good job, I've never trusted in camera levels. The only time I find the level goes off is when I'm not paying enough attention (doesn't happen much, but we're all human) or if I'm shooting portrait format and the weight of the camera is just a tad much to cantiliver out the side. The head is more than man enough to support the weight, but no amount of tightening in the world will stop a little bit of slack creeping in.
I always use PT lens to correct for barrel distortion anwyay and this is also when I check for level. It's a synch to use and doesn't cost much...just buy it and be worry free.
Cheers
Chris
