It isn’t just a theory, it is widely practiced too

and the practical side which is that the workflow is much easier if you discard the extra bits once you have an image that you like.

I think Bob has been arguing for condensing the working space from the start, not part way thorough; and that (I think) is a different arguement.

So why a wide gamut for part of the processing and a small one for the rest – apart from possibly forgetting to convert to the required output space or profile before posting, printing, projecting, or uploading for outsourcing – is it not just a convenience rather than good workflow?
