I do this pretty frequently for websites.

Generally you will want to light the white background separately from the model, evenly and with soft lights on either side (2 softboxes or two umbrellas).  Make sure these lights do not hit the model directly.  The model should be at least 8 feet forward from the white behind him/her.

The model you could light with an umbrella (since you have one) just to the side and slightly above camera, maybe 6 feet forward.  The main light should almost be straight on, you aren't looking for very directional lighting in this case.  You will probably also want a fill light (I would do this above camera) 1.5-2 stops down from the main.

This is one simple way to do this.  I would say you will likely need more lights.

If that isn't an option, you can stand the model against a white wall, use a key and a fill.
