Another point I want to make is

to avoid lens changes during the oversea trips or in any unfamiliar places.  Lens change can introduce dust, moisture (in the rain or near water), lost shots and potential safety issues.  One also gets distracted during lens changes and becomes an easy target for theft when traveling alone in crowd areas.  Changing lenses in a hurry can also lead to unforeseen mistakes that could damage the lens, body or both.

At home, I shoot with two bodies, one short and one long zoom, or one zoom and one prime.  All the lenses are mounted in a more controlled environment, my home.  On oversea trips, I carry a light P&S FZ100 (24-600mm) for extreme telephoto and video shoots.  Either system allows me to shoot without worrying about lens changes or dropping lenses by mistake.
