I am continually blown away by the ability of the D800, but also the whole Nikon system, ie superb lenses, VR, excellent AF etc, helping to make ordinary photogs look good!

Here are some Eastern Yellow Robins (Asutralian bird) shots I took the other day late afternoon and a very dull day under tree shade, around the 8EV mark.

Thank you for sharing! I checked the larger size of these and other pictures on your pbase site: How amazing they exhibit close-to-low-ISO color fidelity! You have inspired me to use hi-ISO on my D800E also during daylight hours. (BTW, you have an admirable gallery...)

Thank you very much for your lovely comments on my gallery and these photos, Bob.

Even those these were taken in rather dim late afternoon light, using the high ISO in daylight hours is really a no brainer when you need fast shutter speeds with long lenses. What I have found with shooting birds is that unless they are perfectly still, then you may get motion blur unless you use reasonably high speeds. So, it is better to use a higher ISO and a high shutter speed to make sure they are pin sharp as the high ISO is so damn good that they clean up nicely in post process, I use Noiseware Professional - highly recommended!
