Sorry if this is an over-analysis, but after reading everyone's replies and your responses, it really reminds me of a similar situation in my past that I won't bore you with.

Getting emotionally attached to your photos & subsequent PP - especially after spending inordinate amounts of time working on it - won't help you get better at what you do. You asked for 'brutal honesty' yet you defended (most) of your decisions (pp the heck out of it, masking the reflection, etc.). I suspect it is because you are somewhat angry/disappointed that all the time & effort you invested in your photo was for naught (at least in this contest), and you really wanted validation that it was a great photo (and the calendar people were wrong for whatever reason you don't understand), but you didn't really get it from all that "brutal honesty." However, you received some great criticism and hopefully you'll be able to pry your emotions off of it & use what you've been told as a template for future endeavors.
