Your camera always focuses at max aperture then stops down to take the shot whether you have a filter mounted or not.

Not true, my camera focuses at the shooting aperture when in LV mode.
So it does - thanks, I didn't know that. It seems to be the perfect solution to the focus shift problem for macro shooters.

With this in mind, there should still be no issue with LV and focusing at f/2.8 through filter then stopping down though, right? It would never achieve focus at f/11 through a 10 stop even in the daylight.
Haha, yup, I was overlooking that slight problem, though I was thinking more about macro shooting where it appears focus shift is more likely to be an issue!
I tend to strip my camera back down to a bare lens for LE, but will be trying the LV approach next time. Old habits die hard, I'll remember on my way back home.
