The effect of the sensor size is simply that larger sensors usually allow more pixels, and that lenses don't need to be as sharp as lenses for smaller sensors since the final photo is enlarged less.

Hmm. I am not sure I'd use the word "allow" here. It's rather that, as a matter of fact, larger sensors tend to have more pixels for some reason. But judging by the pixel pitches of P&S or phone-cam sensors, an MFT sensors with more pixels than the D800 doesn't seem to be beyond the pale, technologically speaking.

I agree that "allow" was a poor choice of words.  How about I say instead that, as a general rule, larger sensors for any given generation tend to have more pixels than smaller sensors.

And, for sure, an mFT sensor with more pixels than a FF sensor is easily possible (just use the same pixel density as the RX100), but, then again, why not a FF sensor with the same pixel density as the RX100?

In my opinion, the answer to that is that it would result in a significantly lower frame rate and adversely affect video performance (would require a lot of line skipping since binning cannot be accomplished with such a pixel count).

And yes, MFT lenses have to be twice as sharp as FF lenses within the much smaller image circle they have to cover. Fortunately, it appears as if the latter helps them accomplish the former.

As always, we have to take it on a lens-by-lens basis.  For sure, we might find, for example, that the 9-18 / 4-5.6 on mFT outresolves the 17-40 / 4L on Canon FF.  But, I believe this to be the exception, rather than the rule (when comparing at the same AOV and DOF or the same AOV and optimal aperture for each system).
