Sure the 16-50 is f/2.8 across the focal range .. its brilliant lens...would be a G class lens if it was FF.. also its weather sealed and good for the beach as well as a down pour. I would take a fast 2.8 constant lens over the advantage of more reach any day. the 16-105 is F/ 3.5 to 5.6....
Also Sony rewards, Amazon , adorama, and B&H Photo all have this combo ( A77 with 16-50 f/2.8 )at a 300 dollar discount.
