24-85 vs 24-120 for D600

If one would buy a Nikon D600 (or D800 if that's a difference), what lens would be considered the best? I know the first one is about half the price of the second one, but the 24-120 focal length seems really interesting.

But in the end it comes down to image quality, which one would be considered the best buy?
