A question about WB and Sony A-77
Nov 19, 2012

I have been shooting exclusively RAW for nearly a year now in an attempt to learn the processing.  I currently use LR 4.2, but started out late last year with LR3.  I primarily shoot outdoors - wildlife and foliage while going on long walks.
I've noticed that my A-77, when using Auto WB, seems to consistently produce WB that is a little to far to the left on the Kelvin scale.  For instance, if I go out on a day when it is generally sunny, but with some high thin clouds, I would expect the WB to be somewhere between 5500K (sunny) and 6500K (cloudy) when shooting out in the open.  However, I consistently see values below 5500 - maybe 4500k - 5100K.
Sunny WB in LR is 5500K with a +10 tint and Cloudy WB is 6500K with a +10 tint.  I notice that the Sony Auto WB generally produces values lower than I would expect - maybe 5100K with tint +1.  The Sony Auto WB colors seem okay, but maybe a little too undersaturated.
Is this simply my misunderstanding of WB, or do others see the same effects?
Question: What do you do all week?
Answer: Mon to Fri. Nothing, Sat & Sun I rest!
