Santa Claus Parade 2012. Fun for kids of all ages!
Yes. It's that time already. In Toronto, it was a fine sunny Fall day with temperature near 50F (10C). The D800e and 70-200 VR II lens gave me the best results yet of many years of going to the parade. The clarity, color and detail are amazing!
I also used the SB900 on this sunny bright day (although naturally at the nearest low light time of the year nearing the winter solstice) to provide fill flash as many parade participants wear caps and hats, shading the eyes. The flash also provides beautiful lighting to highlight the eyes.
Unlike many photographers who stand and walk around I prefer to sit most of the time on the street curb for a kids eye view and to allow the flash to fully light the faces.
Also at the URL you can see the parade over a number of years with different cameras and lenses. Last year I used the Fujifilm X10 with great results for this enthusiast's belt case camera. In the year before I used the D700 and 70-200 VR I lens.
