I know Canon Powershots (my family has about 6) and my Panasonic G3 don't show focal length in-camera. It's probably because it isn't really relevant to exposure of the shot. That is, it really just defines the field of view, which can you see by observation. So it is a case of not cluttering up the screen (in my opinion). Generally you are interested in F-stop and shutter speed and whether you have have the right level of light - and hence can retake the shot if you need to.
