Night shots a football game.. What could I have done better?

Just got home from my daughters football game.. going through the pics and out of 50 or so, its pretty evident I dont have much to work with..  If you could offer some advise so I don't repeat my errors.. just starting out.. thanks!

Using a 5D classic.. 24-105... lighting was pretty poor.. action was pretty fast.  For ISO I figured I better go the max 1600.  The 24-105 f4 sure isn't the fastest lens but its all I had so I opened up as wide as it would go 4.0..  Here is where I made my fatal error..I think .. my shutter speed was 1/25th. it shows speed blur for sure but at night, I probably should have gone for more clarity and gone for 1/200th of a second if not more???
