not given my requirement for a lighter more compact system.

you are willing to make compromises in equipment, style and technique.  It doesn't sould like you are intrigued by that.

Let me tell you a story.  We once had a lady here who was wild about super shallow DOF portraits.  In fact that is all she did-a one trick pony.  She was very pleased with the light weight of u 4/3 equipment, but for what she wanted to do, it was a very poor match.  She posted lots fo the same photo's of the same subject-over and over ad nauseum.  She didn't get the reation to her photo's that she anticipated-it just wasn't a u 4/3 forte.  So she left and is onto another system.  Not that you can't get decent subject isolation with u 4/3-you can but you have to be more thoughtfull about subject and background placement, focal lenght ect.  She didn't want to be bothered with all that-she just wanted to turn the aperture ring! Those of us who like u 4/3 love fiddling with that stuff and the challenge that goes with it.  If that doesn't sound appealing you are going to be very frustrated with u 4/3.

Hate to see the same thing happen to you.
