A question about half-pressed shutter and exposure lock

it is possible to make this procedure one step shorter:

(set camera to manual focus and then:) focus by pressing the AFL-button, and subsequently recompose and press the shutter.

note that in this way you are in fact still employing auto focus, although you are in the manual mode.
