A camera that takes better shots than an old A510? The 110hs doesn't.

I'm not saying the Canon 110hs takes worse shots, they seem to be about the same, quality wise.

I know there are a whole lot more pixels crammed onto the 110hs, so what would be the next bump up in image quality?  SX40/50?  Or straight to the G12/15?

I figured, incorrectly as it turns out, that a shirt pocket camera that has had the modern tech in it might exceed my ancient 510 in IQ...go figure.

Any recommendations welcome, not a fanboy of any brand.
