again, it depends on what works best for you, but for me the 5d3, 24-105, and a fast prime (50 1.4, or 35 1.4) is my minimum traveling Kit. If I take 3, the 3rd one is the 16-35 2.8. its a phenom video lens, and I like the wider angle of view. I never find I miss the tele end of things while traveling, unless, I am doing specific trips like to the zoo or safari.

24-105 is not the best landscape lens under 28, with a lot of distortion, and so so corners. However, 24-70 IS is truly ridiculously priced at 1500, and I am not sure if for the purpose of travelling I am interested in giving up the last 35mm for a bit of better performance and twice the money (the 24-105 can routinly be found, new on buy and sell forums for around 750-800). If I were going that route, and IS was important, I would simply get the tamron 24-70 IS, which is couple of hundred bucks cheaper.

Thank you, kevindar!

I begin to realize, more and more, that if I want really good IQ and a good zoom range, then I will have to carry more than one lens with a 5D3. Money is of course always interesting, but for me it is not the deciding factor. If I could get what I really want, that is a small and light camera with (mostly) only one lens and excellent IQ, then I would be ready to pay for it. The alternative is to accept the IQ of the equipment that I have already got, the Pentax K-5 with the Pentax 18-135 lens. Occasionally I also use my Sigma 10-20 f3.5 wide angle and my Sigma 70 mm macro.
