My own experience is usually different.
Depending on light, subject, etc., I'd say that about 60% of my pictures get focused in less than 1 second (this with firmware 1.2, just upgraded my OM-D to 1.5, but haven't used it much yet).
AF searches back & forth maybe 10% of the time and fails altogether pretty rarely (< 5%?).
