Sorry to here you have had the LHS AF issue. Good luck if you do send it back. I did read that if one side is out the adjustment will only be a compromise between all focus points.
Fabian, in answer to your above question. I have 3 Nikon 1.4 primes, 24/35 and 85mm. Unfortunately all gave the PDAF issue to varying levels. Fortunately a friend had recently bought an 35 1.4 and he was happy to try it on my last body. This gave the same results so I was sure of my findings.
Although there is a resolution difference, my D700 exhibits none of these issues with these lenses.
All lenses work fine using CDAF system on the D800, in fact I was extremely pleased with the results I got using the live view focus on a tripod.
